I have lived in Cuenca for 9 years now and I am ready to move to the beach. However, the earthquake had destroyed not only Manta but has had aftershocks in Esmeraldes. I can only see two options open for me and that is Salinas and the northern coast of Peru. What do you have open in those areas and can you call me. I have a Claro phone number of 0981194075

I wouldn't say Manta is the absolute best in Ecuador. It absolutely depends on what YOU want. Salinas is nice and also has a small airport - no different than Manta. Salinas has shopping and a mercado just like Manta. Salinas, however, was not affected by the earthquake. We opted for the small fishing village of Puerto Cayo, some 45 minutes south of Manta. We have the luxury of shopping Manta, Jipijapa, Puerto Lopez and they are all close. We are beach front property and generally find ourselves the only one on the beach. It is quiet, no pollution, no traffic, no high rises, and no stress.... Our house is ON THE BEACH and for sale! 0969768173

I would suggest you rethink your options, I have been in Ecuador since 1970 and for me Manta is the best of all Ecuador, Salinas is nice, but nothing compared to Manta, which has much more to offer, such as airport, business, large shopping centers, and all around a solid infrastructure. You will find the part of Peru which you mentioned is nice, but still it lacks a lot in comparison to Manta.
Manta is far from being destroyed and will return even better in the future I believe.
In the past after an earth quake sometimes it can be years before experiencing another.
So reconsider staying and enjoy Manta the beach, the local people, and there is a
large expat community if that interests you.

My wife and I have been in Ecuador for visits four of the last five years. We decided we liked Manta best of all and bought a condo at the Poseidon two years ago. Even with the earth quake we are happy with our choice. Very little serious damage at the Poseidon and the city is still a positive place to be. New large mall opening in around a year and a new golf course with in a short drive. I would recommend Manta to anyone who wants what a nice sized city has to offer. We are from Des Moines a similar sized city and like what this offers. Look Manta over before you settle anywhere else in Ecuador if you like the beach and city life.

I lived in Manta Ecuador for several years 2012-2015 and watched as Manta and the surrounding area grew steadily. The earthquake only damaged the low socionomic areas where the homes are not well built. Everywhere else all is already back to normal. In fact there is a new super Mall, the 3 largest in Ecuador and a Mega Maxi (like Home Depot) now and still growing. It is the only airport that flies 6 jets in and out daily on the coast and the only soon to be International Airport to be built. Salinas and Esmareldes were denied that pleasure last year. Also if you look back in the history a little, Salinas has more damage to it than Manta for earlier earthquakes on the coast. Anyone knows that the entire coast of North and South America is suspect to earthquakes at any time... One trip to Manta will show you their strength... I still visit every year and love how things keep growing...
